Cooking Oils... Do you know what to use?
I know, I know... It's been a while. I've been here. Perusing books, blogs, and articles. Filling my head with lots of information... it just hasn't made its way out of my head and onto my blog for a while! Take a look at this awesome Cooking Oil Comparison Chart for information on what oils are most healthful and what they should be used for.
But here's a quick post, and one of my favourite finds in the last couple months!
Most people know that Extra Virgin Olive Oil is good for you... but did you know that you shouldn't use it for high-temperature cooking? Did you know that by heating oils past their "smoke points" you are destroying the benefits?
It took me many hours of reading articles about different oils and their smoke points to come to understand what to use and why. I wish this helpful chart would have been available to me sooner!
These are the oils/fats I am currently using...
- coconut oil
- bacon fat
For cold dishes/dressings:
- olive oil
